Penguins Roll the Dice for Depth
The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up veteran forward Mike Comrie today at the bargain basement price of just $500K in a bit of a roll of the dice for depth. Consider it at the least a short term insurance policy on Jordan Staal's lingering foot injury. If lucky, however, it could ring in the renaissance of Mike Comrie's NHL career and add some more diversity to the Penguins' offensive makeup. The Pittsburgh Penguins added more bite to their bottom six on Friday by signing physical right wing role player Arron Asham to a one-year deal worth $700K. The move signals the redefinition of what the Penguins' 3rd/4th lines will bring to the mix this coming season with Jordan Staal's anticipated move to the top 6. Pens Name Todd Reirden New Assistant Coach
Pittsburgh Penguins' Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced today that Todd Reirden has been selected as Assistant Coach, filling the vacancy left by Mike Yeo. Yeo left earlier this summer to become head coach for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL). Reirden is leaving his post as head coach of Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (WBS) Penguins. The new assignment will re-establish the coaching relationship that he had previously held with Dan Bylsma at the AHL level.
